Community Based Drugs Workers (CBDI) are a project in Carlow Regional Youth Services that works from St Dympna’s and a number of other venues in Carlow town and county.

What do we do?

We provide support to individuals, families and communities to overcome issues related to substance misuse use through provision of information and education, referral, group and individual supports.

The community based drugs worker service (CBDI) works with young people and adults affected by substance misuse.
This service is still operating the confidential phone line 10 till 6 Mon to Thursday

You can use this service :
• To talk to a community based drugs worker about an issue relating to substance use.
• If you are worried about a family member or loved one and would like to talk it through.
• If you’d like support maintaining your recovery.
CBDI offers resilience training; Community Reinforcement Approach Programme, (CRA) and help with SMART tools.
CBDI provides a drug and alcohol awareness programme.

We provide the following service :

  • Specialised one – to -one support for both young people and adults
  • Phone service  – you can call, e-mail or text us to make an appointment or for information or support.
  • ‘Reflect’ Drug and Alcohol Awareness Programme. A five week programme for young people and adults.
  • Initial assessment, screening, planning and referral for people with a substance use issue.
  • Variety of structured programmes and interventions for people hoping to make changes in regard to their substance use
  • Key working service for those who want it. We will help you plan your next step or get back on track.
  • We are available Mon-Fri 9.30 – 6.00
  • Substance use policy development and updating with the HSE substance misuse officer.
  • Training and education for organisations and clubs.
  • Training and education for youth work staff and students.
  • Smoking prevention projects for young people
  • We promote health and wellbeing through creative and active community projects

Who do we work with?

Young People age 12 -18 years and adults over 18.

What can Young People expect?

A safe, comfortable, supportive environment where all people are welcomed, listened to and respected.  People can expect to have freedom of expression. People can expect to be involved in their own care plan and to be supported to achieve their goals.

What can Parents expect?

The confidence that young people are supported by a team of well trained and experienced staff and that if referral is needed, it will be discussed. The knowledge that young people will be in a safe and comfortable environment.
